Hours: From 09:00am to 05:00pm * Last admission of the day is 04:40pm.

Closed:

  • Mondays (Excluding national holidays. On these days, the museum will be open on Monday and closed the following weekday.)
  • The last day of each month (If that day falls on a Sunday, Saturday, or one of the above closed days, the museum will be closed on the first weekday after that day.)
  • New-year holidays : December 28 - January 4
  • Working periods for maintenance (Periods vary by year.)

Regarding the introduction of admission fees for the Showa Era Lifestyle Museum

In order to secure the necessary financial resources to strengthen the foundation for sustainable operation, we would like to announce that we will start charging admission fees from October 1, 2025, as follows.
With this financial resource, we aim to pass on our valuable collection of Showa lifestyle materials to the future and further enhance the content of our exhibits. We would like to appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Admission Fees (From October 1, 2025)

Adults: 300 yen (Free for those under 18)

Automobiles Exhibition Space on the basement floor and the Lobby Exhibition Space on the second floor are free of admission.

If you would like to visit the museum, you can take a “Kita-bus” from the east exit of Nishiharu Station.

  • 1 ride for 100 yen, free for junior high school students and younger
  • Please note that buses are not in service on Sundays and public holidays.

FAQ about Visits and Facilities

How long does it take to see the museum exhibits?

It takes about 30 minutes to visit, and with more than 10,000 items on display, some visitors take a little longer.

Is there a place to eat in the museum?

No food or drink is allowed in the museum. Please use the shops and restaurants around the museum. A vending machine is also available in the City Library on the first floor.

Can I take pictures in the museum?

Generally, photography is allowed for personal use only. However, depending on the exhibition, photography may be prohibited. Also, if we see any behavior that would disturb other visitors, we will not allow you to take pictures. Please contact us for more information about photography for the purpose of publication.

I would like to go to the museum by car. Is there a parking lot?

There is an adjacent parking lot, which is free of charge. However, if you are coming by bus or other large vehicles, please contact us in advance.

Can I borrow a wheelchair in the museum?

Two wheelchairs are available. Please ask the receptionist if you wish to use one.
